Service & Outreach…Serving Our Community
“Cooks Needed”… The Unseen Guest Meal Committee is seeking additional volunteers who can commit to cooking a meal for 15 “unseen guests” four (4) times per year. This commitment includes meal preparation performed in your own kitchen, packaging in the meal trays provided and transporting the trays to the Unseen Guest freezer in the mailroom at church. Receipts for food purchased for meal preparation may be submitted for reimbursement, as Service and Outreach budgetary funds are designated for this worthwhile community service. Unseen Guest Program description: The Unseen Guest Cooks meet the needs of many infirmed and/or elderly people in our community who are unable to prepare food for themselves. A freezer in our church is kept stocked to provide meals for ill family members and friends of SACPC church members, as needed, as well as feeding strangers in our community who have been referred by local social service organizations. Referring case workers represent local agencies such as DSS, NHC Senior Center, Lower Cape Fear Hospice, NHRMC and many others who deal with people in our community who, for health reasons, have a short term need for preparation of their meals. Once approved as an “Unseen Guest”, designated social workers or a family member of meal recipients stops by the church office to retrieve frozen meals for transport to our “unseen guest”. With our community’s current economic situation, social workers have stated that local programs such as Meals on Wheels, Mother Hubbard and Good Shepherd are short on resources and have difficulty accommodating the multitude of citizens in need of food. To volunteer to cook 4 times per year or with questions, PLEASE call, text or email Laurie Link at 910-612-7072 or laurielink57@gmail.com very soon.
