Helping Refugee Families

Are you willing to help host a refugee family?
Recently David Augustus posted about his experience on a recent short-term mission trip to Clarkston GA. (If you missed it, here’s a link to his devotion.) There the team made ready two apartments for arriving refugee families. Although not nearly as many as Clarkston, Wilmington also receives refugees through Interfaith Refugee Ministry (IRM). Impacted by that short-term trip, members of the Clarkston team are planning on hosting a refugee family here in Wilmington and are looking for others who would like to join in. There is much to be done in hosting a family. It is a 6 month process. Some tasks are done just in the beginning (e.g. setting up an apartment, welcoming the family at the airport) and other tasks are more long term (e.g. helping the family negotiate the school system, learning bus routes, etc.). We are looking for people who can help with both types of tasks. There will be training by IRM in late June or early July (date to be determined) and we can expect a refugee family arriving in August. If you are interested or would like more information, contact David Vreeland (dvreeland@ec.rr.com).
