Library News

The Adult Christian Education Committee is pleased to announce the acquisition of two new sets of Bible commentaries for the Adult Church library. The first series is the seventeen volume The Old Testament for Everyone by John Goldingay published by the Westminster John Knox Press; it was purchased with gift funds. It is a companion set to The New Testament for Everyone by N.T. Wright. Both sets are on the same shelf with the commentaries near the windows in the library.

The second series is the twenty-six New Testament volumes of the Anchor Yale Bible now published by the Yale University Press and purchased with budget funds. These volumes are the product of a commercial and scholarly collaboration which began with the original publisher Doubleday in 1956. The entire series includes volumes about the Old Testament, the Apocrypha, and the New Testament and has contributions by scholars from Jewish, Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Protestant, Muslim, and secular traditions. Each volume contains an original translation of the Bible text, detailed commentary, and a variety of illustrations. It is a wonderful scholarly resource for the Sunday School teacher and the individual Bible reader or student. It is on shelves just above the other versions of the Bible near the door leading to the Church Offices upstairs. The volumes of both sets are now in the library and may be checked out.
