Dear St. Andrews-Covenant family:
Since the Session changed the organizational structure of our church, some church members have asked staff and church leaders: How can I get involved?
That’s a great question and I have some answers for you!
Recently, Tom Glatt (the new Media Coordinator and editor of Saints Alive) has been describing the four areas of ministry focus on the back of several editions of our weekly newsletter. Let’s review these four areas as I identify some opportunities for involvement.
Provide Opportunities for Worship: Even though we have many people active on the Worship Team, coordinated by Sharon Miller, we always need help with the worship planning, now in three locations: chapel, sanctuary, and Brown Hall. Here are just some of the possibilities: lay readers, communion elders, ushers, singers, bell ringers, floral arrangers, advent decorators, sound system/computer operators, music library helpers, children’s music helpers, wedding coordinators, and worship assistants. Contact Sharon Miller (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have interest. In addition, the Worship Team has a new team just approved by the Session: the Spiritual Formation Team. A coordinator will soon be announced. This area includes these former areas: Spiritual Life, the Evangelism, and Women’s Ministry. Volunteers are needed. Contact me (email@example.com) for more information.
Teach the Bible: This area includes children, youth, and adult education. On June 27, the Teach the Bible Team staff members, Catheryn Thomas (Ministry Secretary), Gail Richardson (Interim Director of Children’s Ministry), Jen Phelps (Summer Youth Team Leader), and Bob Bardeen (Interim Coordinator for Adult Education) will meet to plan for the fall and the establishment of the Teach the Bible Team. Maybe you would like to help with the plans. Early on, we want to coordinate and prepare for The Table Sunday school class that meets in the Gallery. Contact me (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you want to participate in this exciting ministry.
Build and Nurture Relationships: Robb Lapp leads this ministry focus area that includes so much in the church: caregiving, Stephen Ministry, Board of Deacons, membership, fellowship, small/support groups, and recreation. The Build and Nurture Relationships Team has several groups that organize the above areas with the Deacons, but others are needed. The Caregiving Team always seeks more people to love and visit people in need. Contact Robb (email@example.com) for more information if you want to help.
Go and Serve: Gary and Jane Smith are the new co-directors of the Go and Serve Team. After meeting twice in May, their next meeting is Tuesday, July 11, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. starting with a covered dish dinner. Even though they have 30 people involved in this team that covers the two former committees (Mission, Service and Outreach), more team members are needed to provide oversight in Global and Local ministries. Contact Gary (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Jane (email@example.com) for more information about the recent communication with our sister church in Brazil. Help is needed in many ways with Wilmington area outreach projects, and a possible trip to Atlanta to help with refugees.
In summary, your involvement is needed. Help is needed in all of the areas of ministry focus. If you do not use email, contact the church office because we are always willing to help you.
With the unfailing love of God,
