Our Bereavement Ministry
Under the care of the Fellowship Committee, the Bereavement Ministry provides a reception or lunch at the church, or food taken to the house. The committee does whatever is determined by our staff and the family to be the best for the family. The food and servers are provided primarily by St. Andrews Covenant volunteer church members. The committee budget may provide for the meat, punch, additional paper products, or any other supplemental supplies or food stuffs. The bereaved family does everything it can to give us advance notice and an attendance number so we can plan accordingly. I use past history and my years of experience with 100+ youth group Sunday dinners to estimate quantities of foods. Even then we never knew a number in advance so we depended on the Lord, and the loaves and fishes to multiply. The committee keeps a long list of volunteers so we are always covered and no one feels uncomfortable if they have to say no, to a request for help. I actually get more calls asking me, “Why didn’t I call them?” We never miss an opportunity to recruit for our volunteer list. This is an amazing ministry provided by our church and it means the world to the grieving families and to the volunteers who serve. It gives the family valuable fellowship time, without having to serve guests in their homes, and be in the comfort and love of St. Andrews Covenant Presbyterian Church.
