Daring to Believe

Advent with the Prophet Isaiah

"The wilderness and dry land shall be glad,
the desert shall rejoice and blossom."

Daring to Believe

Despite living in a time of war and crisis, Isaiah believed in a world where hope, peace, joy, and love held sway; a world where predator and prey were friends and the desert brought forth gardens; where highways were safe and justice and mercy flowed from those in power. He did not know he was dreaming of the gifts of Christ. He could not have known. But he knew that God’s story was not over; that it will not be over until all people see the great light of God’s salvation dawning into our world.

Poinsettias and other greenery will add beauty to our Brown Hall worship space this Advent season. You have the opportunity to contribute to the cost of the decorations in memory or in honor of a special person. Any donation amount is greatly appreciated and those interested may use the white ‘Special Flowers’ envelopes located throughout the church, through our website, or contact Susan Dykes in the church office at 762-9693 ext. 207.

The due date to make donations is Sunday, December 14th.

Advent Daily Devotionals

Each year we purchase digital copies of the Presbyterian Outlook advent devotional for our congregation. This year's devotional is titled “Draw Near: Lighting the Advent Faith with Hope, Peace, Joy and Love.”  Here's an excerpt of the devotional series:

Each day of Advent, this devotional offers a gentle invitation to draw near — to Scripture, to stillness, and to the heart of God. Following the traditional Advent themes, you'll light the way week by week with hope, peace, joy and love, preparing not just for Christmas, but for Christ’s presence among us.

Alongside daily reflections, this journey is enriched by artwork from children — tender, honest interpretations of sacred texts that remind us what it means to receive the kingdom like a child. Their drawings offer not just illustration, but illumination —echoing the wonder and welcome of the season.

Go & Serve This Advent Season

Local Giving Opportunities

Go & Serve is collecting donations for the Salvation Army Angel Tree during the month of November. This is a wonderful opportunity to provide a joyful Christmas for local children who otherwise would go without. The tree with "Angels" will be in the Gathering Area beginning November 9. Please choose one or more "Angels," purchase some or all of the items on the list, and return them unwrapped to the Gathering Area with the child's tag to all items.  We will deliver the gifts to The Salvation Army the first week of December.

Unwrapped gifts due by Tuesday, November 30.
At SACPC, we are focused on "inspiring one another to love Jesus by staying faithfully present in our community." We give over 10% of our annual budget to mission work through our Go & Serve ministry. Your faithful giving allows us to support critical programs in our community that provide food and shelter to the homeless, support our underserved public schools, and inspire the next generation to be the hands and feet of Jesus throughout the world.  This Advent, consider making an end-of-year contribution to the holy work of St. Andrews-Covenant.

National Giving Opportunity

The Christmas Joy Offering honors God's gift of Jesus Christ by providing assistance to current and retired church workers in their time of need and developing our future leaders at Presbyterian-related schools and colleges equipping communities of color. We will have envelopes available at the front left table in Brown Hall on December 14 and 21, and Christmas Eve. Or give online through the church or PCUSA:

Global Giving Opportunity

Since 2011, SACPC has enjoyed a partnership of prayer and friendship with Chuluchosema Church of Central Christian Africa Presbyterian (CCAP).  Please consider supporting this partnership again this year to help change and brighten the futures of students whose lives are limited by extreme poverty. Contributions also support weekend vocational training to provide skills such as tailoring, woodworking, and bicycle repair plus a meal (often the only meal received that day).

SACPC Advent Events

Bring the true meaning of Christmas to life this Advent season. We offer a variety of worship experiences for young and old--along with some beloved "traditions" to help make this time of year feel special for you and your family.
